As sourcing manager with the Single Malt Shop, Glen Melia gets to visit distilleries to meet the people who make, brand and sell your favourite bottles. But, in a region and market, as large as Scotland’s it’s hard to pack them all in. 

This year, he got backstage at some of his favourites Scottish brands. Here’s a snapshot of his travels.

This is a beautifully-crafted single malt from the modern Speyside champion, Glenallachie. Matured in three exemplary casks - virgin oak, oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximenes sherry – it’s a flagship bottle for the Billy Walker-led whisky house.

On the nose, you’ll discover notes of dark chocolate, honey, cinnamon and espresso that lead to a palate heavy with orchard fruits, marzipan, honey and nutmeg. Bottled at 46%, it’s a complex whisky with a long and lingering impact.
