The Macallan Digs Deep in Jerez' Sherry Oak Heartland
Investment in Spanish sherry cask companies spotlights a long-term future for The Macallan Sherry Oak fans
The Macallan continues to deliver double-digit growth to its owners, Edrington, the international spirits company, based in Glasgow. A world leader among single malt whisky producers, the Macallan is a highly trusted global indicator of trends in luxury whisky sales.
It closed out its 200th year by announcing a strategic partnership with a trio of sherry cask companies in Jerez, the heartland of Spanish sherry production. Securing a sustainable supply of high-quality sherry casks is a determined move by this most famous of Sherry-matured whisky makers and underpins the future direction of The Macallan.
Fans of The Macallan Sherry Oak series can rest easy, safe in the knowledge that the cooperages and sawmills of Jerez are primed to supply the very best European sherry-seasoned oak to the Scottish single malt whisky maker.
The addition of a 30-year-old core bottling to the Sherry Oak series rounds out an exemplary collection of 100% sherry-matured single malts. Fans of this Classic Range edition can now experience the range of complexity in fully-sherry cask matured whiskey at 12-, 18-, 25- and 30-year-old releases.
While the eldest of the family, the 30-year-old, is a bottle we can all aspire to enjoy some day, each of the four releases has its own personality and charm. Intensely flavoured and extra matured, each bottle is shaped by its own maturation journey. The 12-year-old is a continuous release, while its three older siblings are annual releases and limited in number.
