Micil Madeira Island – a Portuguese wine-finished Irish whiskey fuelled by great smoke and spice

The third release in Micil’s Island Series is a peated Single Pot Still finished in Madeira wine casks – Micil Madeira Island

Galway looked to the Portuguese island of Madeira for inspiration for this third bottle in the Micil Island Series. A single pot still, it was finished in a cask that had previously held this rich, sweet wine, imparting not just a full-flavoured palate but a healthy measure of history beneath its aroma, too. 

The Madeira Islands are as close to the African continent as they are to Portugal (and Galway). It’s from this wild Atlantic and distant origin that Madeira wine flows, a wine style literally invented at sea.
